The Spring 2018 Wine Club Selection awaits you.

The days are getting longer, the vineyards have been pruned, the daffodils are up, and bud break will be next signaling the beginning of Harvest 2018. The winemakers are busy bottling up wines to ready for the upcoming harvest and topping the wines aging in the barrels.

As you know, Deerfield ages their wines longer than most California wineries because, as Winemaker Robert Rex says, “Wine gains complexities in the barrel that you just don’t get from the same time spent in the bottle.” The wines in the Spring Wine Club shipments are, indeed, a testament to this philosophy. We have selected them because they are singing. We believe in selecting wines that are ready to drink now, and because of our Clean Wine® process, Deerfield wines age well. Enjoy!

Malbec grown in Sonoma produces lush flavors of ripe blackberries and pie spices with soft tannins. We accentuate the berry flavors with Merlot and Zinfandel. The Cabernet Franc adds a chocolate note to the top of the palate and the Syrah fills in the bottom. It’s a delicious blend from the best vintage since 2007. Get some extra and lay it down for a couple of years and you will be genuinely rewarded. The 2013 vintage was the best since 2007 and produced wines with great structure that will lead to a very long life. This wine is delicious now and will gain complexity with age.

2012 Reserve Old Vine Zinfandel

This dry farmed Buchignani/Garcia Vineyard is still farmed by the same family that planted the vineyard over 135 years ago. It produces the most incredibly complex wine. The 2012 Old Vine Zinfandel packs a powerful punch, yet it is remarkably smooth. Its rich flavors taste of toasted caramel, chocolate, and dark brambly fruit. We have been making the Old Vine Zinfandel from this vineyard for over 35 years and received 95 points from the Wine Enthusiast for the Old Vine Zinfandel from Buchignani/Garcia Vineyard.

Sonoma Valley is one of the best places in the world to grow Merlot. It has the perfect soil and weather conditions. The Deerfield @Merlot has the forward fruit, low acid, and soft tannins that you love in Merlot with the depth, lift, and finish that you find in a Cabernet. This is a wine priced for drinking any night of the week. The @Merlot is lovely by itself and pairs well with hamburgers or Mac and Cheese.

The color is deep, dark and brilliant. The nose is true to Cabernet, with a bit of leather, a dash of allspice, and cedar. The taste unfolds in long linear strokes from front to back. The tannin is definitively Cabernet typical, without being obtrusive or dominant. All the elements are harmonious and integrated. The wine is dry yet gentle for a Cab. The finish is long and lingering. It is an elegant, friendly Cabernet that is perfect with red meat and grilled foods.

56% Sangiovese, 12% Merlot, 8% Malbec, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Zinfandel, 6% Petit Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc

T-Rex is styled after the “Super Tuscans,” the great wine blends of the Tuscany. T-Rex celebrates the Rex Family’s Italian heritage and the winemaker’s art. We accentuated the strawberry essence of the Sangiovese with Merlot and Zinfandel. Malbec gives it a touch of blackberries and Cab Franc brings a touch of chocolate. Cabernet and Petit Verdot give it structure and round out the palate.
