The Fall 2017 Wine Club Selection is here!

There’s a shift in the air. You can feel the energy in the Sonoma Valley building in anticipation of the upcoming harvest. Due to an extremely warm summer, we chose to delay leafing, a process where some leaves are plucked from the vine to help the maturation process. We left the leaves on to provide some shade for the grapes and reduce the chance of sunburn. Both Winemaker Cecilia Valdivia and Vineyard Manager Ricardo Juarez agree: This year’s crop of our estate Syrah, which is biodynamically and organically farmed, is looking quite promising. The grapes wait patiently to begin their journey from vine to bottle. In this selection, we’ve included a delightful mix old and new friends to come together to welcome you to the 2017 Deerfield Ranch Winery harvest. Make sure to let the wines recover from their voyage before opening once they arrive.

2013 Sangiovese
Sonoma Valley

Two Bottles

75% Sangiovese, 8% Zinfandel, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot

Sangiovese is the national grape of Italy and it grows everywhere. Americans are still getting to know this delicious varietal that emotes roses and ripe strawberries. We’ve been making Sangiovese from Dan Sanchez’s mountain top vineyard for 11 years. We blended in small amounts of a few varietals to accentuate the fruit flavor of the Sangiovese and give the wine a longer finish. The wine was aged 40 months in used oak barrels, producing subtle influence of oak flavor and a big influence on smoothness. The flavors explode in the middle of your palate leaving no place untouched.  Or 2013 Sangiovese pairs beautifully with Italian cuisine. It is ready to drink now and our Clean Wine® techniques assures that this wine will remain delicious well into the 2020’s.
